John Richard Elvin is a theatre artist specializing in stage motion, technical design, and the creation of practical educational aids for theatre training. With a focus on kinetic elements and automation, he brings dynamic movement to live performance through both realized productions and innovative technical solutions.
His realized projects include the Picking-Up Machine for The Cat in the Hat and automation design for The Music Man. He has served as Technical Director at Peterborough Players and at Linn-Benton Community College. Elvin is also passionate about developing accessible teaching resources and has created downloadable guides and tools that support students and practitioners in areas such as safe stage movement and technical theatre fundamentals.
He holds an MFA in Technical Direction from the University of Arizona and continues to explore the intersection of technology and live performance, sharing knowledge through educational materials and hands-on projects.
